For beginner, intermediate and advanced freedivers, the Freediving Summer School in Malta is an unbelievable introduction to the sport and continued development for those with some freediving or spearfishing experience. Led by world class Instructor Trainer, Emma Farrell, and her team of AIDA instructors, the courses cover pool work, classroom theory, open water diving, and recreational freediving at wrecks, reefs and even in the nets of a tuna farm! We have one or two week packages and also packages for your non-diving friends and family members.

What’s Included in the Diver’s Package

The package on offer is the most comprehensive available. Included in your course fee is:

  • 7  or 14 nights Bed and Breakfast Accommodation in the 3 star Hotel*
  • Airport transfers
  • Transport around the island to and from diving locations
  • Expert tuition from World Class Instructor Trainer Emma Farrell and her team of AIDA instructors
  • Open Water Training and recreational diving in Malta
  • Pool training in the 50m National Pool Complex and hotel pools
  • Day trips to dive Caves, Blue Lagoon, reefs and tuna farm nets

* The price is based on two or more person occupancy of the hotel room. If you wish a room to yourself then there is a single supplement of 84 euros + VAT per week payable to the Maltese Partner on depature. If you are coming alone and wish to share with another student, please let us know once you are booked onto the course.

The Courses

Courses run 15th – 20th and the 22nd – 27th August and you can come for either week or both!   There will be a number of options available to you:

One week options (either week)

  • Beginners Course (AIDA */**) – 7 days
  • Intermediate Course (AIDA ***)  – 7 days
  • Advanced Course (AIDA ****) – 7 days
  • AIDA Instructor Course (8 days) (second week only) 1,499.00
  • Training and Trips only (AIDA ** and higher)

Two week options

  • Beginners Course (AIDA */**) with Additional Training Days and Trips (14 days)
  • Intermediate Course (AIDA ***) with Additional Training Days and Trips (14 days)
  • Beginners and Intermediate Course (AIDA */** + ***) with Additional Training Days and Trips (14 days)
  • Advanced and Instructor Course (AIDA **** + Instructor) (14 days)
  • Training and Trips only (AIDA ** and higher) (14 days)

At the end of the course students will qualify with an AIDA (International Association for the Development of Apnea) qualification depending on performance during the course. Please note that if you are taking the AIDA **** course you must also complete a First Aid CPR qualification.

Non-Diver options

We also offer the option for non-diving friends/family to come along and make a real holiday of the trip.  Your options are as follows:

  • One week adult non-diver
  • Two weeks adult non-diver
  • One week child non-diver
  • Two weeks child non-diver

What’s Not Included

  • Flights to and from Malta
  • Personal Freediving equipment **
  • Lunch and evening meal on all days

** Personal Freediving Equipment
It is your responsibility to bring with you the following items. If you do not have these items then you will be refused entry onto the course

  • Low volume mask
  • Snorkel
  • Long, full foot Freediving bi fins
  • A wetsuit, preferably a 3-5mm Freediving wetsuit. These can be ordered by emailing the Course Organiser Team via this contact form although we need AT LEAST 3 months notice
  • A rubber, quick release weightbelt
  • An AIDA conforming, one handed quick release lanyard. These can be ordered by emailing the Course Organiser Team via this contact form although we need AT LEAST 2 months notice. They are not available to buy in the shops. If you decide to make your own, please ensure it comes up to standard and email us at least 2 months prior to the course with detailed photos so we can assess the standard.

Extras for Divers & Non-Divers

Non divers are welcome to join us for any of our trips, for a small cost payable to our Maltese partners. Scuba diving is also available and on Saturday 21st August there will be a day trip to Gozo for scuba and freedivers. During the week, visits are also organised to visit Valetta and Mdina as well as other local social events! All divers and their families are welcome to extend their stay if they wish to see more of Malta after the course.

What are the performance requirements and prerequisites?

There are some minimum requirements for people to attend the summer school. These are listed below:

  • AIDA */** Freediver Qualification
    • Prerequisites
    • • Be 16 years of age or older
      • Be able to swim at least 200m non stop without fins and at least 300m non stop with mask, fins and snorkel
  • AIDA *** Freediver Qualification
    • Prerequisites
      • Be 16 years of age or older
      • Have completed an AIDA ** course or equivalent
  • AIDA **** Freediver Qualification
    • Prerequisites
      • Be 16 years of age or older
      • Have completed an AIDA *** course or equivalent and a first aid/CPR course
  • AIDA Instructor Qualification
    • Prerequisites
      • Be 16 years of age or older
      • Have completed an AIDA **** course or equivalent and hold a current first aid/CPR qualification

Course costing depend on which option you choose.  

One week options (either week)

  • Beginners Course (AIDA */**) – £889.00
  • Intermediate Course (AIDA ***) – £939.00
  • Advanced Course (AIDA ****) – £989.00
  • AIDA Instructor Course (8 days) (second week only) – £1,499.00
  • Training and Trips only (AIDA ** and higher) – £789.00  (Please note that your depth will be limited to your qualification (** 20m, *** 30m, **** 38m). If you wish to dive deeper then you will need to take a course. At the start of the week a training plan will be made with you for your objectives during the week)

Two week options

  • Beginners Course (AIDA */**) with additional training week and trips – £1,678.00
  • Intermediate Course (AIDA ***) with additional training week and trips – £1,728.00
  • Advanced Course (AIDA ****) with additional training week and trips – £1,778.00
  • Beginner and Intermediate Course (AIDA ** + ***) – £1,798.00
  • Intermediate and Advanced Course (AIDA *** + ****) – £1,898.00
  • Advanced and Instructor Course (AIDA **** + Instructor) – £2,198.00
  • Training and Trips only (AIDA ** and higher) – £1,578.00 (Please note that your depth will be limited to your qualification (** 20m, *** 30m, **** 38m). If you wish to dive deeper then you will need to take a course. At the start of the two weeks a training plan will be made with you for your objectives during the summer school)

You can upgrade to the next level at any point before or during the course and only pay the difference as long as we have instructors available.
